QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Matric
- Certificate or Courses within the shipping and logistics fieldwould be advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Route Controller
- Exposure to Forwarding an advantage.
- Experience with general cargo import and export clearing.
- Freight Industry knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of Ships Agency and Freight Industry advantageous
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to do an Estimate to client as per request for LCL and FCL
- Good understanding of Inco Terms and have good relationships with Shipping lines and Groupage operators to secure best rates.
- Must be able to identify breakpoint on Estimate for LCL and FCL shipments – most cost-effective option for the client.
- Liaise with client on PO readiness
- Update Reports to client on a daily basis
- Liaise with agents and ensure cargo is being collected as per date specified and make deadline of Vessel stacks / packing dates
- Once shipment loaded request for Draft docs for approval: MBL and HBL to be manifested correctly
- Excellent attention to detail – required to double check all documents, Supplier Invoices, MBL, HBL, Packing list for qty, weight dims all in order and Values of Supplier invoices check with client.
- Track shipment from SOB date and Arrival at POD – update client if any major changes – Port Congestion etc.
- Know the procedure to request for ANF and charges once shipment transshipped and on route to POD.
- Must be able to understand arrange Removal from rail and understand difference between carrier haul and merchant haul instructions
- Must be able to understand shipments Manifested for Durban and/or Johannesburg and if removal from rail to be arranged
- Request Invoices from shipping lines on Freight / Landside charges – double check charges against quotes / standard Landside rates.
- Ensure payments and POP are submitted to shipping lines to ensure release.
- Process Cargo Dues on system NPA timeously, prior Vessel arrival or else penalty will apply.
- Pre-alert Transporter on incoming shipments FCL and LCL and request rates per shipment if LCL
- Ensure FCL containers are uplifted ex Depot within Free time or else storage, and Demurrage will be charged. Empty turn in to be done before free time ends.
- Must understand the urgency of Customs clearance of cargo prior arrival and submission of SARS Releases prior Vessel arrival to obtain Release 72 hours prior vessel arrival – must have full set of docs on file to submit to clearance.
- Update NAVIS for Nominated Transporter with Shipping line to avoid containers moving into Overstay.
- Understand priority of getting shipments cleared prior vessel arrival and know all groupage operators release depots to make bookings for collections.
- Must be able to negotiate better rates with transporters and shipping lines to ensure most cost-effective landed costs for client
- Liaise with client on daily basis prior delivery and ensure delivery on time at client’s premises
- Invoice client on day of delivery as per Estimate – no additional charges unless client been made aware of prior due to Customs STOP or Depot Charges
- Must be able to arrange for Customs Exam / SAPS Exam/ NRCS if container is stopped Ensure container being uplifted as soon as release received to avoid storage and demurrage charges from the Depot / Shipping line
- Must be able to do Estimates on system ShipShape and Customs Clearance if required – fully understand the system ShipShape
- After delivery request POD and charges to capture on system
- and ensure profitable margins
- If Controller be able to work Paperless is a bonus.
