TRANSPORT AND HANDLING OF PROJECT CARGO
Trade Ocean facilitates the transportation, handling and shipping of a vast array of project cargo within Southern Africa. Our specialised offices at the various ports will provide support services within the boundaries of Southern Africa as far as Zambia and the DRC.
WHAT IS PROJECT CARGO?
Trade Ocean classifies project cargo as the transportation, handling and installation of heavy items that are indivisible, with weights within the range of 1 ton to over 1000 tons / of widths/heights of more than 100 meters (these are too large to fit into normal containers or onto conventional transporters). These oversized items are transported from one place to another (sometimes across country borders), and are then lifted or installed into place.
PROJECT CARGO TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS
Generators, turbines, reactors, boilers, towers, casting, heaters, presses, locomotives, boats, satellites, military personnel and equipment are examples of common project cargoes. In the offshore industry, parts of oil rigs and production platforms are also lifted. Some of these are also removed at the end of an installation’s working life. To transport heavy lift items, special trucks or trailers (flatbeds) are used. For air transport, special large-volume cargo aircraft are employed which can move up to 250 tons of freight at a time. For seaborne project cargo, special heavy lift vessels are used for the transportation of oversized cargoes such as jack-up rigs, yachts, etc.
